Ok, so compared to Toronto, the Durham Region does not have a heck ton of attractions. That said, it's no Saskatchewan town where all there is to do is get drunk in a field (sorry if you're from Saskatchewan). For those of you not from Ontario, if you ever visit, be sure to go past Toronto, just an hour east to see a lot more than the kitschy tourist traps.
Special shout out to my mom who always made sure me and my sister got to explore and get to know the community we grew up in.
I try to do fun things now and again- so below are a random five attractions that I like to frequent that are near home.
Goodwood: Once you type in Downtown Goodwood in Apple Maps (noticed how I say Apple and not Google lol), you will find yourself in a cute little hamlet in Uxbridge where there is the filming location of David's Apothecary in Schitt's Creek. The town itself is so cute with cafes and nature trails. Fun fact, I worked all of a 2-minute drive from the filming location and didn't know till a year later.
Jacked Up Coffee: Located in Downtown Whitby, Jacked Up Coffee is a cute little auto body shop turned coffee shop. With beanbags and umbrellas outside in the summer, and lots of aesthetic photo stops it is definitely worth the visit. I always get cappuccinos, but really need to try their cold chocolate.
Canadian Automotive Museum: This one probably sounds like a weird addition, but here me out. It is smack dap downtown Oshawa (be safe folks), but it is multiple stories and has cars from the past, present, and even some from movies. At one point they had a Lightning McQueen replica (kachoooow). If you're looking for IG pics or are just a car fan it's the perfect spot. Ideal date spot for the car loving guy and picture loving girlfriend lol.
Camp X: Back in the day, Camp X was a World War II spy spot and training school. You can go in for a tour to see the location and a walk on the beach can lead to finding some WW2 remnants. All I found was sea glass though, smh.
Keep your eyes peeled for more suggestions.
