New Orleans Day 2: Swamps and Mardi Gras

Thank goodness we didn't book anything early because that was the best sleep I've had in a long time.

We started out the day heading to Swamp Adventures where we took a boat across the swamp to spot alligators. Our tour guide was a wack-a-doodle because he he decided to shove his hand in the water and pet the alligator. Fun fact: to lure them closer to the boat, the guide throws marshmallows in the water. Apparently the marshmallows resemble eggs which attracts the gators. Another Fun fact: crocodiles have pointier noses and alligators have rounded ones. Also, the only place crocodiles are located in North America is in the Everglades in Florida.

Our second stop, (after stopping to buy lunch at Walmart) was Mardi Gras World where they make and share floats. They're primarily made of styrofoam and paper mache, which is insane. They're currently working on floats for one parade that's theme is numbers. There is a Harry Potter 9 3/4 Platform, a 007 Car, and 1/7 of the dwarfs. Mardi Gras is 12 days long and has 34 separately themed parades, costing millions of dollars.

After taking a much needed break at the hotel, we headed to dinner at MRB. If you buy a GoCity pass in whatever city you choose to go, tons of attractions are included at a super discounted price. It also got us this free, traditional New Orleans dinner. My friend tried to call the restaurant to make a reservation and instead got a voicemail saying, "If I could be answering the phone, I'd do it butt naked playing the bongos." So, safe to say we were a little sketched before getting to the restaurant. Turns out she had the wrong number... The restaurant was great and I tried crawfish for the first time. Honestly just tastes like shrimp so I'm not mad about it. While we were there, the Leafs lost, which sucks, but at least we aren't dealing with the sadness in Toronto.

Last stop for the night was the New Orleans Comedy House. Let's just say the funniest part was us leaving the show and a guy on the street saying "why y'all come to New Orleans. You know this place dangeous right?" And that's a wrap on Day 2!
