The PAD might have officially converted me into a hostel traveller! Believe it or not, after all these years of travelling, this is the first hostel/hotel that I have ever stayed in, and I am beyond in love with the place!
Located in Silverthorne, CO, just a short drive from Vail and other large ski cities, Silverthorne is the perfect calm town to enjoy Colorado in any season. Unfortunately, I only had the pleasure of staying in Silverthorne for one night, but I can confirm that I will be back and staying at The PAD.
Now, let's get into the nitty gritty and look into my review of The PAD! But first, if you want to see more videos and a brief overview of the property, check out my TikTok by clicking the button below.
Check-In and Check-Out (10/10)
Upon arriving, your job is simple: tell the front desk you are checking in and receive your key! The front desk is open 24/7 and the staff are some of the nicest people I have ever encountered. They are more than happy to share restaurant and activity suggestions. On top of the help of staff, the Pad also has PADventures to help you see all the events, games, and opportunities in the area without having to peruse the whole internet.
Check-out is just as easy! Return your key and say your goodbyes to the friends you've made along the way. Side note: hostels are great for making friends and adventure buddies! You are all here to travel and have fun on a budget, so everyone is open to chatting.
Amenities (9/10)
I cannot express enough how much The PAD has to offer. The three-floor building has multiple common rooms per floor (some with fireplaces), to enjoy the company of new-found friends. On the main floor, there is also a fully stocked bar, an outdoor patio with a fire pit, lawn games (like giant Connect Four), some cute hiking areas by the river, a community kitchen and more! I have never stayed at a hotel with a community kitchen where you have access to a full professional kitchen to cook and bake as much as your heart desires. Parking is also included in the price, so there is no need to worry about hidden fees.
On the third floor is a balcony hot tub and a large seating area for guests to enjoy. Let me tell you, the view from the hot tub and the rooms is phenomenal. Right now, being fall, the trees are the brightest yellow I've ever seen.
Beyond the physical attributes of this accommodation, they also have different events each day. Wednesday night, for example, is trivia night at the bar. They also host Latin dancing and other weekly events.
In the room itself, there is a Keurig, coffee, tea, television, utensils, and other necessary supplies. Remember, because this is a hostel/hotel only some of the rooms have an on-suite bathroom. Either way, the shared bathroom is spacious, clean, and has no issues. The one thing that I would have liked to see is on-site breakfast, complimentary or paid.
Cleanliness (10/10)
Let's just say that this is the only accommodation from our trip that I didn't feel like I had to spot-check for bedbugs. Everything from the sheets to the shower is pristine and clean. Given that 90% of the decor and paint are white, this is really saying something. The PAD opened in 2021, and given its relative newness, it still feels as if it opened just yesterday. The hotel has a modern look and feel perfect for young travellers.
Local Area (9/10)
Silverthorne is a small town but it still has so many dining and shopping options. The best part is that everything is within walking distance (just cross the little bridge on the river and enjoy the views while you walk). On the main street, there is a Marketplace, which is a little swanky food court with a bar in the middle, mood lighting, and a bunch of food options. Just a minute's walk from the hotel, there is also a cute Italian delicatessen perfect for breakfast before you hit the road. If mom-and-pop shops aren't your thing, there is a Wendy's and Starbucks only a five-minute walk away.
Despite being a small town, there is also an outlet mall to explore. With brands like Columbia and Tommy Hilfiger, you will be sure to spend the money you saved on the accommodation on some new hiking clothes. The whole town has a cute mountain village vibe, perfect for a restful stay!
Overall Stay (10/10)
When my mom and I drove up to the hostel/hotel our jaws dropped. It being so clean and modern immediately blew us away and the amenities were the cherry on top. We had a fabulous stay. Considering we have now been hiking for five days straight, the super comfy bed and large shower revitalized us for the next couple of hikes!
